Larissa Deppisch from the SPC Spatial project team gave a presentation entitled “Of city folk who decide everything and foreigners who get everything: Rural populism in narratives of urban-rural difference” at the 62nd German Geographical Congress, which took place in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, from September 19 to 23, 2023. She discussed the extent to which aspects of right-wing populist ideology can be found in the urban-rural narratives of people in peripheralized rural areas, but also shows how the rural population differentiates when it comes to attributing responsibility for the local situation. The presentation was co-authored with Susann Bischof.
